Who We Are

It is our Purpose to be empowered by Jesus to serve all with open hearts and minds.

Come join us.

Grace and Peace Lutheran Church has its origin in 2007 when two congregations, one predominantly African American merged (Grace Lutheran) with another who was predominantly white (Peace Lutheran) forming a diverse congregation. We believe that God values and embraces each person as a beloved child, that the Spirit gives a diversity of gifts for the common good, and that Jesus Christ calls us to work for justice.

You are welcome at Grace & Peace Lutheran Church, a Reconciling in Christ congregation of the ELCA. Christ is our center and we live in grateful response to God’s love and grace. We seek to celebrate the image of God in all people, including every race, sex, age, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital and familial status, physical and mental ability, socioeconomic situation and political affiliation. Please join with us in nurturing meaningful relationships and sharing our collective gifts in response to the world’s deep hunger for hope, love, grace, justice and peace.

About Grace & Peace

A History: Two churches become one.

Grace and Peace Lutheran Church has its origin in 2007 when two congregations, Grace Lutheran Church, in downtown Evansville, and Peace Lutheran Church, in the church's current location, merged together to create Grace and Peace Lutheran Church.  Each church has an interesting and unique history and the 2007 merger brought together these two strong congregations to create something that is very special!

We are involved.

We are a church involved in our community.  We operate a Mission at the downtown Elliott Grace location to provide spiritual and financial assistance to those in need. Additionally, our members are involved in organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Kairos prison ministry, Tres Dias, and Crysalis.  Our youth group is extremely active and welcomes all young members of our Evansville community to join our mission.

Our LGBTQIA+ community is welcome.

As a Reconciling in Christ community church, we welcome include and celebrate all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people. We advocate for the elimination of all systemic policies and practices that create painful oppression in our communities. Whether it’s Sunday service, Bible study, or just stopping by our Fall Festival booth to enjoy our world-famous Donut Bank Burger, we welcome all.  Stop by and visit us!

We Proclaim God's Grace and Share God's Peace through love and service to all.
